Nataraja is a depiction of the Hindu god Shiva as the cosmic dancer who performs his divine dance to destroy a weary universe and make preparations for the god Brahma to start the process of creation.
Shiva, whose name means “The Auspicious One” in Sanskrit, is one of the most complex ancient gods in the Hindu pantheon. He is viewed as a supreme positive force because he destroys evil, ignorance, and death. Shiva also ensures the cycle of life because his destruction of negativity clears the way for renewal and growth.
