Art Nouveau - French for "New Art." An international art movement and style of decoration and architecture that flourished between 1890 and 1910. The art is characterized particularly by organic curvilinear depiction of leaves and flowers, often in the form of vines. It was a deliberate attempt to create a new style, free of the imitative historicism that dominated much of 19th-century art and design.
