This intricate piece invokes the ancient tradition of Hellenistic astrology, a system that synthesized Babylonian celestial observations with Egyptian decans to map the influence of the heavens upon human fate. Encircling the central, omniscient eye—a powerful symbol of divine providence and the "Evil Eye" protection found throughout Mediterranean and Near Eastern folklore—the twelve signs of the zodiac represent the cosmic theater that has guided navigators, mystics, and kings for millennia. Belonging to the themes of esoteric wisdom, celestial mysticism, and protective occultism, this artifact captures the human endeavor to decipher the silent language of the stars and the eternal search for security under the watchful gaze of the cosmos.
